BTU = 5,000 kwh, or 157 gal fuel oil, or 240 gal propane, or 220
therms natural gas.

Californians use 58% of the electricity per person per year as
compared to the rest of the USA. Europe uses approx 50%
the electricity we do in spite of being in a much colder climate
overall. This means we need to work twice as hard as they
do just to heat and cool our homes. We need to be more
efficient to be competitive.
The true costs of coal and nuclear energy include the cost of
pollution ‘externalities’ so easily dismissed by corporate bean
counters. These externalities (see links) affect our
health today; they affect our air, water, food, environment,
climate and our children. Coal and nuclear energy receive
huge government tax subsidies in the form of a nuclear
depository, and mountaintop removal. We believe we must
change to a better (far better) electricity source. We
believe we must change it both personally and as a nation.
